True Faith: Manchester Art Gallery, Manchester, United Kingdom

30 June - 30 September 2017
Group Exhibitions

An exhibition curated by Matthew Higgs, Director/Senior Curator of White Columns NY, part of 2017's Manchester International Festival at Manchester Art Gallery.

Opening on 30 June the exhibition, entitled True Faith, explores the ongoing significance and legacy of New Order and Joy Division through the wealth of visual art their music has inspired.

The show will bring together work by some of the world’s most notable artists. It will feature four decades’ worth of extraordinary contemporary works from artists such as Julian Schnabel, Jeremy Deller, Martin Boyce, Mark Leckey and Slater Bradley, all directly inspired by the two groups.  Also featuring Peter Saville’s seminal cover designs, plus performance films, music videos and posters from the John Baldessari, Barbara Kruger, Lawrence Weiner, Jonathan Demme, Robert Longo and Kathryn Bigelow, the exhibition provides a unique perspective on these two most iconic and influential Manchester bands.

Glenn has created an extraordinary body of work inspired by Ian Curtis and the work Dark Angel is a brilliant example.
