Arcimboldo Face to Face: Centre Pompidou-Metz, Metz, France

29 May - 22 November 2021
Group Exhibitions

Popular icon famed for his composite heads, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, with his taste for illusion and grotesque, was seen for a long time as a "curiosity" by art historians. Despite his success during his lifetime, as underlined by the many "arcimboldesques", his oeuvre has been overlooked by the 17th century, to be rediscovered at the dawn of modernity. The journey, imagined hand in hand with Maurizio Cattelan as a huge installation in the way

of an Arcimboldian collage, will intend to break the usual partitions of art history. A selection of modern masterpieces will enter into a dialogue with contemporary creations, some of which specially designed for the exhibition.
