Live Painting for Glass Handel
Glenn Brown will be painting live at the Palais Garnier in Paris as part of a Visionaire event. This follows his participation in Visionaire’s 2022 production at Printworks, London — Glass Handel, an immersive operatic performance combining art, music, and movement. View here.
Following his Paris Opera debut in 2024 as Francisco de Ávila in The Exterminating Angel by Thomas Adès, American countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo returns this season in the role of Gandhi in Philip Glass’s Satyagraha.
For this special lyric gala at the Palais Garnier on 14 November 2025 at 8 pm, Costanzo presents a recital that bridges two distinct musical worlds: the baroque virtuosity of George Frideric Handel and the hypnotic minimalism of Philip Glass. The program highlights the full expressive and technical range of his voice—from the ornate coloratura of Handel to the lyrical intensity of Glass’s contemporary soundscape.
The performance is conducted by Karen Kamensek, a longtime Glass collaborator and specialist in his repertoire, leading the Paris Opera Orchestra.
Conceived as a multidisciplinary experience, the concert features a live painting by Glenn Brown CBE created on stage during the performance. Lighting design by Brandon Stirling Baker, costumes by Raf Simons, and sound interstitialsby Sabisha Friedberg complete the artistic vision—blurring the lines between opera, concert, and performance art.
