The Rembrandt House Museum presents Glenn Brown – Rembrandt: After Life, an exhibition devoted to Rembrandt’s considerable presence in Glenn Brown’s work. Already in the 1990s, Brown appropriated paintings linked to the Dutch master, and works by his pupils and followers as well. In
2008 Brown embarked on a pivotal series of prints, Layered Portraits, in which he made use of Rembrandt’s etched portraits and character heads. The exhibition shows a recent graphic turn in Brown’s work, with more linear and monochromatic works based on drawings and prints by Rembrandt and other masters of the Renaissance and Baroque. Highlighting the presentation is a remarkable group of new works based on Rembrandt and contemporaries that Glenn has made especially for this exhibition. It includes drawings, paintings, and an entirely new series of prints.
